Needles, Glass, Metal, Wire & Splinters
Majestic recognizes that many puncture hazards cannot be measured by the standard EN388 minimum requirement for testing. The standard probe test simulates large puncture threats but fails to accurately characterize puncture resistance to high-risk hazards. These hazards include hypodermic needles, wire, glass & glass fragments, metal shards, and wood splinters.
In addition to the EN388 protocol for puncture resistance, Majestic intensifies the safety standard and measures a glove’s puncture resistance according to the ASTM F2878 Standard by forcing a 25 gauge syringe needle through the material at a fixed speed. This measures the material’s resistance to other puncture hazards commonly found in the workplace but not addressed by the EN388 standard.
As companies evaluate employee hand protection against all puncture hazards, it is critical to measure puncture resistant claims by the penetrating object. The rounded probe, larger than the end of a ballpoint pen used in the EN388 test does not accurately simulate the degree and scope of puncture hazards employees typically encounter.
